Why Did You Choose to Selfpublish Instead of Taking The Traditional Route?
Well, I'm an impatient soul by nature and I wanted to get my work out there ASAP. I had already sent some of my short stories to friends who thought they were really good, so I had confidence that the work was ready.
I think in the erotic genre in particular, there is less need to go down the traditional publishing route.
Also, from an author's perspective, there's less to gain by involving anyone else.
Did You Set Out To Become an Author as Your Main Profession?
I started writing rather late in life really. I met and had a relationship with a guy who had graduated in Creative Writing and he encouraged me to start, although I had no idea at that time what the potential was for me.
I still have my day job at the moment, but I'm hoping to be able to change my priorities somewhat in 2015 and spend more time writing.
Which Authors Have Inspired You The Most?
Many, many authors over the years have been a considerable influence and inspiration.
In erotica, I adore the stories of Tiffany Reisz. Her Original Sinners series has had me on the edge of my seat. I've been out of breath and panting, laughing and crying, all in one session!
I also love reading thrillers and some historical/fantasy/sci-fi. I'm reading Conn Iggulden's Emperor series at the moment, which I love, and Steve Berry writes some great thrillers with a historical twist.
Tell Us About One of Your Recent Releases.
Fierce & Fabulous: Volume One is my first book. It's a collection of three short stories, scenarios if you like, which happen to my central character, Leah Bennett.
She's embarking on a journey of enlightenment of sorts, discovering things about herself through the medium of a series of sexual encounters. She also plunges into the precarious world of swinging for a time to see what that's all about.
She's having a whale of a time, for sure, hence there's a Volume Two, and shortly to be a third in the series too!
What Is Your Favorite Part of This Book, and Why Do You Think Readers Will Enjoy It?
My favourite story of the three is Turning Up The Heat. Leah goes to her gym one morning and is taking a swim when she meets this gorgeous bronzed Adonis-type who follows her into the sauna. You'll have to read the story to find out what happens next...
Where Do You See Self-Publishing Going In The Future?
I think traditional publishing houses must be quaking in their boots, to be honest. They need to raise their game. For years the balance has swung in their favor. Books would only appear on shelves in shops if they decided they would make a profit. Nowadays, with the invention of Kindles and other e-readers, readers have more options and thus, authors are providing more avenues and ways for them to buy.
I think self-publishing has grown because both readers and authors want more control over what is being read and marketed. Thankfully, this seems to be making the marketplace much more competitive, which is no bad thing.
Who Designed Your Cover Art?
So far, I have chosen stock images online to use as covers. However, I have an erotic fantasy which I'm working on at the moment, and I shall be engaging the services of my dear friend Huy Truong from DeviantArt to design my covers for that. He's also designing my next tattoo for me!
