Why Did You Choose to Selfpublish Instead of Taking The Traditional Route?
I like the control that indie publishing gives me. I write what I want, publish when I want, and don't have to answer to anyone but the readers! I can get books to market faster, and respond to current trends. Plus, indie published books are less expensive to produce, and those savings are passed on to readers.
Did You Set Out To Become an Author as Your Main Profession?
I always dreamed of becoming an author, but thought I would do it on the side. Now that I've reached my dream, my goal is to become an author full-time.
Which Authors Have Inspired You The Most?
Classical authors that have inspired me include Jane Austen and George Eliot. Some of my current favorites are Jennifer Cruisie, Virginia Kantra, Laura Florand, Roni Loren, Heidi Cullinan, and Daisy Harris.
Tell Us About A Book You've Written.
My latest release, HANDLING CYNTHIA, is for lovers of sexy, angsty BDSM.
Cynthia Darlington can't forget how Trent Weber kissed her before they left for college—backed up against her Mustang, wrists firm in his grip, her body yielding to his desire. Now, five years later, she seeks him out at their class reunion, newly aware of her submissive nature, and hungering for his dominance. With so much time and distance between them, he's practically a stranger now. Giving herself to Trent could be the culmination of all her hopes—or a teenage fantasy gone horribly wrong.
When Trent watched Cyn walk away after their kiss five years ago, it was enough humiliation to last a lifetime. But with one look at her in that tight black dress, his old desire resurfaces—and with it, the dark fantasies of her bound and submitting to his will. He longs to master this beautiful, confident, and supremely independent woman. If he can't convince her to submit to her deepest cravings before the weekend is out, he could lose his last shot at the one who got away.
This BDSM erotic romance novella is intended for an adult audience. It contains scenes of flirtation, hot kisses, seductive bowling, a spoiled sub, a demanding Dom, second thoughts, and second chances.
What Is Your Favorite Part of This Book, and Why Do You Think Readers Will Enjoy It?
What I like best about Cyn is that she doesn't fit the mold of the ingenue BDSM heroine who falls under the spell of a wealthy, powerful Dom. Instead, she's a confident, determined woman who knows what she wants and goes after it. Her struggle is reconciling her desire to be a fully realized, empowered woman with her craving for submission and power exchange. This story isn't about wish fulfillment.
It's about real-life challenges that many women face, negotiating a relationship that works for them while still respecting the needs and desires of their partner.
Where Do You See Self-Publishing Going In The Future?
Indie publishing is here to stay. Long-term, I think we'll see the lines blur more between traditional and indie publishing, with the two branches learning from each other and incorporating the best of both approaches. We're already seeing that to a degree with small presses and the rise of the hybrid author.
I hope the glut of poorly written self-published books will diminish over time as people realize it's not a get-rich quick scheme. The books that do well tend to be books that are as high-quality as traditionally published books. I've read a few self-published books that had potential, but the authors took a shortcut and self-published before really learning the craft of writing fiction. That's unfair to readers, who end up paying money for an unsatisfying experience. But the authors also short-change themselves, because the book falls short of what it could have been.
Who Designed Your Cover Art?
I do my own cover art. I've got a graphic design background, and usually prepare the cover before I finish the book. The images often inspire my writing.
