TNL: Why Did You Choose to Self-publish Instead of Taking The Traditional Route?
Sage: I tend to be the kind of person who over thinks and takes forever to make decisions and then changes my mind again.
So with self publishing, I could write my story, edit it and publish it as fast as possible. It was actionable, it was me actually doing something for my career instead of just sitting doing research on how to write the best query letter.
Maybe someday I'll submit to agents but for now, being able to have control of when and how often I publish my stories makes it easy for me and more fun!
TNL: Did You Set Out To Become an Author as Your Main Profession?
Sage: Yes and no!
I've had the dream of being a published author probably longer than any other dream in my life.
But I knew it wasn't something that would happen right away, I expected to have other careers and things to do while I wrote books and submitted to agents and waited for acceptance.
The introduction of self publishing has helped make my dream come true and writing and being an author still isn't my main job but it's an awesome side gig and I hope to grow my list of books and expand to something bigger if I can!
TNL: Which Authors Have Inspired You The Most?
Sage: Cate Tiernan first got my hooked as a reader when I was in middle school.
Terry Goodkind inspired me to explore my fantasy side as a writer.
Red Phoenix, Delphine Dryden and Jodie Griffin gave me the confidence to write erotica.
TNL: Tell Us About One of Your Latest Books.
Sage: In October, I self-published my debut novel: We Need Him (Part 1).
Jake and Jamie realize their relationship of five years is starting to fall apart, will they continue to pull away from each other or mend the rift? Jamie wonders how she can be enough for her boyfriend, who has always liked both men and women, while Jake ignores the problem.
When they meet Brett The Britt through a mutual friend, will their attraction break or mend the relationship?
We Need Him is series of novellas focused around the threesome of Jamie, Jake and Brett.
Their story follows the path from just being a couple to inviting someone new into their bed to dealing with family and work issues and beyond.
TNL: What Is Your Favorite Part of This Book, and Why Do You Think Readers Will Enjoy It?
Sage: As a reader, I've enjoyed reading threesome stories that involve romance as much as sex. So when I set out to self publish, I wanted to try my hand at a mmf threesome story.
It's been fun and hard to write (excuse the pun!). It's more difficult to keep up with three main characters than two as in a normal erotica or romance but it really helps make the story. I love writing the interactions between the three and how they play off each other.
TNL: Where Do You See Self-Publishing Going In The Future?
Sage: Bigger. It's becoming easier and easier to self publish and I think it will continue that way.
When it was first a "thing" a few years ago, I had no idea where to start but now it takes very little research and knowledge of anything technical to upload a file and hit "publish".
TNL: Who Designed Your Cover Art?
Sage: I did! I'm an artist and have been using photoshop for almost 15 years now and since writing is currently a side gig, I wasn't able to spend money on a designer just yet.
