Why Did You Choose to Self-publish Instead of Taking The Traditional Route?
I took the self-publishing route because I didn't want to wait around hoping for a small advance, while I knew I could make more money, faster, by self-publishing. Had I gone the traditional route, I'd probably still be waiting to hear back from an agent.
Did You Set Out To Become an Author as Your Main Profession?
Yes. I've wanted to be an author for years, but never really sat down to work at it. I was at a RWA (Romance Writers of America) chapter meeting when someone presented their self-publishing sales numbers. I almost fell out of my chair. I asked her how she discovered self-publishing and she told me about Joe Konrath's blog.
I immediately went to the blog and read every single post. It took me a few months during which I also read everything I could about self-publishing. I knew that if I really worked at it, I could leave my day job within a couple of years... I left the day job 1 year, almost to the day, after publishing my first book. I have around 30 books out now.
Which Authors Have Inspired You The Most?
Joe Konrath, K Matthew, Raminar Dixon, Selena Kitt, and many other self-published authors.
Tell Us About One of Your Recent Releases.
The Sitter's Secret is a naughty erotica short story about a man who comes home to find the babysitter performing a webcam show. He decides he wants to do more than watch, and soon she's giving up the one place she's never let a man touch. It's really dirty and I absolutely loved writing it.
What Is Your Favorite Part of This Book, and Why Do You Think Readers Will Enjoy It?
My favorite part happens near the end when the sitter realizes what he's about to do to her. It's so hot!
From the book:
He flipped open the cap and spread a few drops over his c__k. “Trust me sweetie, it’s much better with a little extra lube. Your a_s won’t be as sore tomorrow.”
A spark of realization crossed her face and her eyes went wide. “Wait, what?”
He shoved her torso against the desk. “Lay down, baby. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly.”
She wiggled beneath him. “I’m not ready for that. I mean, I’ve never done that before.”
Where Do You See Self-Publishing Going In The Future?
I think self-publishing is like the wild west. Authors are going to have many opportunities as long as they stay on top of market changes.
Readers are getting different, more interesting books that would have never made it past a traditional publisher's desk.
Who Designed Your Cover Art?
My husband. He's done all of my covers and I'm super lucky that he's so good with Photoshop.
I want to thank Raminar for having me on his blog. His newsletter - The Naughty List - is a great way for readers to find out about new releases and other erotica books. The Naughty List book bundles are also awesome. I have a story in one bundle so far, but I look forward to putting more stories in The Naughty List bundles in the future.
